General Purpose Handheld Scanners

Datalogic Scanning's QuickScan®, Gryphon™, Heron™, FireScan™, and Touch™ general purpose scanners provide snappy reading performance for numerous vertical markets, including: retail, healthcare, distribution, and office applications. Succinct differences between these products make each model better suited for varying applications; however, there are certain components of general purpose scanners that are standard in all products carrying the Datalogic name.

These standard features comprise only a part of the story – the individual nuances of each product, the service behind the product, and the thorough testing of the product, are all equally important in the composition of what makes Datalogic Scanning products excel.

Design

  • Attractive yet durable design matches the most popular POS terminal colors for an integrated and professional look
  • Rubber overmold at all contact points - protected from POS abuse, the enclosure wears better over time and increases the life of the scanner
  • Durable scanners withstand multiple 1.5m/5ft drops to concrete, increasing the life of the scanner and lowers maintenance costs and downtime

Technology

The General Purpose scanners have three types of scanning technology—laser scanning, linear imaging and full area imaging. Each of these technologies has advantages for different types of applications.

Laser Scanners

Laser Scanners - The QuickScan L, QuickScan 6000 Plus and FireScan use laser scanners. The advantages of laser scanning are:

  • Best solution for very long ranges with a 33cm/13in. (100% UPC) depth-of-field
  • Better high ambient light performance because of a higher Visible Laser Diode (VLD)
  • RSS decoding available on select models

Linear Imagers

Linear Imagers - The Touch, QuickScan QS2500, QuickScan QS6500, Heron, Heron G, Gryphon 1D/PDF, QuickScan Mobile, QuickScan QS6500BT, Gryphon M and Gryphon BT are linear imagers. The advantages of linear imaging are:

  • No moving parts make linear imagers more durable and less susceptible to breaks, lowering the TCO
  • Generally better at reading poor quality labels because of bright, thick scan line
  • Aggressive reading and an extended depth-of-field which increases productivity
  • Support most 1D symbologies including RSS-14
  • Support PDF417 labels and linear codes including EAN Composite 2D symbologies (for QS2500, QS6500 and Gryphon D2xx models)
  • Wireless data capturing, both narrow band (Gryphon M and QuickScan Mobile) and certified Class 1 Bluetooth® (for QS6500BT and Gryphon BT models)
  • Have flash memory, which lower the total cost of ownership because software can be easily upgraded and scanner configuration parameters can be changed using Windows based utility.

Full Area Imager - The Gryphon 2D is full area imager scanner. The advantages of full area imager are :

  • CMOS technology
  • Omni-directional scanning for 1D, RSS/PDF and 2D and postal bar codes
  • Image capturing
  • Intuitive 5 dots laser aiming for definite scanning
  • Low power consumption – only 5V
